Slow Summer Stays at Hergest Lee

There is a particular kind of summer that belongs to the Welsh borders...
It is found in the long grass at the edges of the lanes, in the sound of swallows overhead, in the quiet light that settles over the hills at the end of the day. It is slower here. Softer. The sort of place where you remember how good it feels to wake with the birds, open the door to the morning air and let the day unfold without too much of a plan.
At Hergest Lee, summer is best enjoyed slowly.
The days can begin with coffee outside, wrapped in the stillness of the garden before the heat gathers. From here, you can walk straight out into the landscape, following lanes and footpaths through fields, hills and hidden corners of the Welsh borders. There are views that ask you to pause, hedgerows full of life, and the kind of quiet that feels increasingly rare.

For those who like to explore, pretty market towns such as presteigne and Hay-on-Wye are close by — perfect for bookshop wandering, coffee, galleries, vintage finds and long, unhurried lunches. On warmer days, there are places nearby for wild swimming, with cool water and wide skies offering the simplest kind of reset. Later, you can return home sun-warmed and a little dusty, light the fire pit, pour something cold and sit outside as the evening stretches into dusk.

This is the beauty of a summer stay here. It does not need to be over-planned. It can be as gentle as reading in the shade, bathing under the skylights, cooking something simple, walking up to the pub, or doing very little at all.
The Cabin and the Lean-to have both been designed as places to retreat — quiet, crafted spaces that invite rest, reflection and reconnection. The Lean-to, with its shou sugi ban exterior, secret sleeping spaces and bath beneath the skylights, is made for lingering. The Cabin, tucked into the landscape with its sculptural staircase and hillside views, offers a peaceful place to read, sleep deeply and wake slowly.
Both spaces are rooted in craft, simplicity and a deep connection to place. They are not about rushing through a list of things to do, but about allowing yourself to properly arrive.

Summer at Hergest Lee might look like morning coffee by the door. A walk with no destination. A swim in cold water. A new book from Hay. Supper outside. The glow of the fire pit. A bath beneath the evening sky. The kind of quiet that settles the nervous system and stays with you long after you leave.
For anyone craving a few days away from noise, screens and busy routines, this is an invitation to step out of time for a little while.
We currently have summer availability, including three nights for the price of two on stays until 17th July.
Come for a long weekend, a midweek escape, or a few slow days on the Welsh borders.
Come and lose track of time.
